California State University has an outstandingly high number of new students working part-time, at 82%, four times higher than the national average.

Research by US News and World report shows that income plays an important role in students' college choice. Students from well-off families will not hesitate to study further than students from more disadvantaged backgrounds. According to a study by the University of California (Los Angeles), about 56% of students tend to choose a school about 160 km from home.

If studying further or need money to pay for living, students and international students often work part-time. This creates an opportunity to learn as well as a vibrant experience exchange environment, which helps students when they practice. However, going to work early can cause them to neglect their studies.
